So you know what PRINCE2 stands for but you still want to know why it’s for you.
Well it is globally recognised and the de-facto standard project management method utilised by the UK government. It is utilised by many public and private sector organisations in the UK and in 50 countries across the world.
It is focussed on managing the project to a successful outcome; that is the big strength of PRINCE2 you focus on the final output of the project and managing it to get that successful outcome.
Once you start to understand that you can embrace how the Project focus is on the Final Project Product and everything leads to that and how it is good for any project in any environment.
You don’t need to be a specialist in what the Project is to achieve, just in project management, but being a specialist in the area will always help.
And this is why I’m an unashamed fan of the method. You are protected as the big decisions are made by the board.
Your job is to deliver the products specified by the board that are capable of achieving the benefits listed in the business case.
The business is represented by the Executive, who is ultimately responsible for the project and ensures its alignment to corporate strategies. The executive is supported by the senior user and the senior supplier. The Senior User defines the benefits expected and will carry out the assessment of the achievement of those benefits after the project has closed. They represent the users who will utilise the projects outputs after it has closed.  The Senior Supplier represents those who will produce or maintain the projects’ products in their operational life
Thus you work on behalf of people who have an interest in the Project outputs and make the necessary decisions when asked leaving you to produce whatever it is that they asked.
Your success is merely measured by achieving delivery of products capable of delivering the benefits.
